I am interested in language-based human intelligence, i.e, how language
plays a role of human intelligence, and in developing applications related
to language and intelligent information technologies.
I was a visiting scholar at Computational Semantics Laboratory of Stanford university CSLI(Center of Studies for Language and Information) from Sep. 2007 till Mar. 2008, and was a visiting scholor at German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) from May 2007 till Sep. 2007. From Apr. 2000 till Mar. 2005, I was a visiting
scholor of Lab. for Language-Based Intelligence at Brain Science Institute of RIKEN, Japan. I started working as an associate professor of Dept. of Information science of Ochanomizu university from Apr. 2003. From Apr. 1996 till Mar. 2003, I was an associate professor
at Faculty of Economics of Hosei university and a research associate of the same affiliation from Oct. 1995 till Apr.
1996. Before that I worked on my Ph.D dissertation at Tokyo Institute of Techonology under Prof. Michio Sugeno's supervision. While at Tokyo Institute of Technology,
I was studying at Dept. of Linguistics of the University of Sydney, Australia from Sep. 1994 till Aug. 1995. I worked on Systemic Functional
Linguistics based language processing with Dr. Chiristian Matthiessen who is currently Prof. of Department of Linguistics, Macquarie university, Australia. We established Systemic Meaning Modelling Group (SMMG), an international group for studying systemic functional linguistics and
its application, in 1995. Since then, I have been a SMMG member.
